After you have re-installed the operating system on your HP 2000 - 420CA, things like your sound or graphics will not be working correctly. This is because the operating system would of set-up your computer with default or generic drivers that are designed only to operate at minimal levels or may not work at all. A driver is the communication software that interfaces with the computer's specific hardware. Some form of driver is required for the hardware to operate in any way.
Windows® default drivers are designed so that that basic start-up requirements are met, such as being able to see the display. These are not optimized for the 2000 - 420CA and are very very slow. In cases where the computer is using a default display driver, you will not even be able to see the full screen resolution. Our 2000 - 420CA compatible driver disk is one of the most versatile ever released. We think that a driver disk full of compressed, out of date and hard to install driver files is just not good enough. This driver disk will supply you with all the very latest HP® 2000 - 420CA drivers. Once the disk has automatically set-up your network drivers, and if you have internet connectivity, the system will then also update, replace and remove any old or broken device drivers.
As an added bonus you can use this disk up to three times on three separate computers.

If you are in US or Canada there is an option to order Recovery Disks on your support page in the 'drivers & software' list for around $16. You can find your support page using the link at top of this page titled 'Support and Drivers'.
To find the correct page you will need full Model number or Product number as listed on the Service Tag attached to bottom of laptop. If you need more help locating the support page please post your Model number and Product number.
A free alternative to consider If the laptop came with Windows 7 AND you can read the 25 character Microsoft Windows 7 license key attached to bottom of laptop, you can download a Windows 7 ISO file to burn to a DVD The version must match the one listed on the Microsoft COA sticker, such as Windows 7 Home Premium. I won't be able to get onto someone's comp till the end of next week. I had been told I could do that one of the techs I talked to and she even said it wasn't a guarantee that work. Then another tech I talked to said I didn't even need a disc that he could just walk me through some steps to get it restored. But of course for a charge, which I won't dispute it is a business, but unfortunately as an not do that at this time, so there for I was left with no idea of these 'steps' I was told of. And well I was hoping someone else out in the techy world might no.
Because like I said wont be able to get onto another computer till 'maybe' the end of next week, and well my daughter needs a comp by Monday, oh the joy. Magic steps indeed, lol that's exactly what they've become to me since he said those words lol. Well as soon as I hit the power button it comes on to one and only screen where it says 'Windows Boot Manager' then says 'windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Tho fix the problem: 1.
Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer. Choose your language settings, and then click next. Click repair your computer. Ot have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance (which is what I did). File: /boot/bcd Status: xc000000f Info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.' Although when I do turn the comp on I can hit things like f11 or f10 and so on.
I have actually tried running the system factory restore two other times with the same results. So this is where my problem is lol. The tech guy I had talked to said it was a mandatory error message and that I do not in fact need the disk he could walk me through some steps to fix the problem, and that is where I ran into my problem but was left the those magic words 'don't need a disc just as few steps to fix it' lol so here I am trying to find these mysterious magic steps!
